Background check for a rifle?

I want to buy a rifle for target/rec. shooting at my local range. I know there's no registration required, but a background check is. My question is that several years ago(3-4) I failed a follicle drug test while applying for a government job [to clarify before people type anything rude, it was in college/I was a recreational user & had stopped months before the test, but still tested positive for MJ. I DO NOT DO IT ANYMORE so please don't be mean with your comments]. Other than that I have a clean record. Would this come up in the background check/hinder me from buying a long gun?
