Why do white people get stuck with most the blame for slavery (this is long)?
Slavery was what it was, unjustifiable, but you are right, I can't find any ownership in my family tree--and we have traced it back a long way. Either way, whoever is alive today had nothing to do with it. Asking people to get over it will be tough, it seems to be the crutch of today's society. If there is a spat or even a simple conversation that involves race--you are going to hear about it from someone. I am not racist either. I have just decided recently though that it makes no sense to justify my position when first, whoever is hurling the "racist" bomb at me doesn't care one way or the other, second, it's not my duty to prove it. So, for anyone who tosses out the slavery argument, though I agree 100% it was unimaginable cruelty--the fact is, none of us or any of our immediate family members had to endure it, so we can't possibly know what it feels like.
