What makes manuel antonio national park so special when there's plenty of animals to be seen near hotels?

Someone once mentioned that they were disappointed they didn't see a lot of animals in MA park since they didn't hire a tour guide. I am wondering what makes it so great if there seems to be a lot of animals in close proximity to hotels like monkeys, sloths iguanas etc.
