Super smash bros brawl question?

when you play the game online (when it comes out), can you just enter a game full of people in the lobby, like a game inthe format of burnout 3 or halo, you click on a game you see with people in it, and then start playing from there? or is it totally different? i heard to had to input "friend codes" or some garbage which would suck donkey ballz. i just want to enter a game full of people waiting in the lobby, and start fighting from there like a clic online game.
